What is the point of this. Andy was a very poor role model for the youth. Why would you support him and the things he represented.

This has no business in the church, for shame!!!!!

  2. Hey, has he been in my church? I must have skipped out that day.

TJ, maybe it was that the pastor put you to sleep during service.

Mr. Horner the caption below the video only says “This is one of the best impersonations ever.” It does not say worship Andy Kaufman, lets follow this wonderful role model Andy Kaufman or the church supports Andy Kaufman and what he represents.

This is just a simple light hearted media and regardless of who it is, its a display of great talent. I’m sure even you can appreciate talent.

    1. Mr. Horner I could be wrong, but I believe you have no authority dictating as to “what has business in the church”. People with this type of mindset are a big reason why the youth does not like to go to church and hear Gods’ word!!! Do you wanna have to answer to the big man why you pushed his children away?? I wouldn’t!!!

    2. As for role models for the youth.. Today has it “HANDS DOWN” the worst role models..
Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan… and those tv shows that make it worse..
The Hills, or even “My Sweet 16″.. I remember people complaining about the simpsons and even Southpark.. but even Southpark is on really late at night when kids SHOULD be in bed.

    3. Mr. Horner if you are even a parent then YOU SHOULD KNOW that a child is a reflection of their upbringing and if you just sit them in front of the tube all day watching things like Andy Kaufman (back in the day); Then you might as well tattoo your childs’ forehead “I’m a product of bad parenting”. If you monitor and sensor your kids then you’ve won half the battle.

    Clear as mud, GREAT!!!
    Be Cool, Stay in School.

  5. Andy Andy he’s our man if anyone can do it Andy can. Andy was a entertainment genius. Tom H neither you or anyone else has the right to judge his great talent. He blazed a trail for all comedians.

Purple Nurple, why are you so angry, am I not asked to give my opinion on this blog. I never said that you must agree or encourage my opinion. Now I will address your questions.

    1. I have no authority as to who goes to church, but I have the responsibility to teach, encourage and correct those that choose to be in the church. I do not want to answer for not doing what the bible tells me to do. John 7:24 Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.

    2. I agree the entertainment business has gone to the sewer. And entertainers such as Andy plowed the way for these others to have even more liberty. I feel all those that are in the public eye should be held at even a higher level of accountability. Our children want to become them and there should be a way to make them responsible their actions or quit.

    3. As a I parent I understand what you are trying to say, but we are all responsible for the choices we make. We can’t blame everything on our upbringing. If you raise two children and one grows up to be a god fearing loving father and husband and the other is a drug dealer, who failed? Half of the parent?

Granted we are effected by our upbringing, but we all have intelligence, free will and common sense. It is how we as an individual choose to use then all that determines our outcome. Not to give us excuses to act out while passing all blame to another.

I grew up in an abusive alcoholic home and was beaten to near death several time. I love my father even today. I don’t like what he did nor do I approve of his actions or life style. But he saved me form my self, had he not become an abusive alcoholic I may have become one also. But instead I look for comfort in God and have lived to bring honor to the Lord.

All of us seven siblings but one love God and remain faithful to the Lord and the church He has given us to serve in. The one makes excuses and blames everything on dad so he too can walk in the foot print of our father with no responsibility for his actions. He was not the oldest or youngest but the fifth.

Purple Nurple, I understand why you would think and say much of what you do. The culture has taught us a lie and that lie is that someone else is always responsible for our actions. I stole from the company I work at and went to jail because the owner reminded me of my father and my father owed it to me! Sad but is rather common amongst those that want to live a life of no responsibility. Now who do you think will answer for such thinking and living.

So with your reasoning, I should have beaten my wife and 5 children and drank like a fish. Yet I haven’t, one out of seven isn’t bad, yet it is not good either.

I don’t dislike Andy, but his actions I despised. I don’t know how old you are, but I grew up with him in that decade. Which was the decade that broke down many moral walls that gives us all those that you mentioned above. We will we realize that our actions will have an effect on the generations to come. I pray for your children if you have any.

But yes I will agree with you he was a very talented man, I just wish he could has seen his fullest potential. God gave him a gift and he choose to us that gift to gain the things of the world. Just think how his life could have been a positive impact on society and culture.

Sorry if I have rambled, my first comments were a mere knee jerk reaction to my own life, friends and society that I grew up in. This is very close to my heart as now you know.

I look forward to your correspondence.

Correspondence.. now were gettin to the BIG words… I wrote out my first response the way I did because it was short, direct and to the point. I didn’t want anyone to get lost or have to decipher through this illusion with all the smoke and mirrors.

    1. The blog is for opinions and discussions. Your first comment was rash and judgemental, you either acted without thinking and just blurted something out, or, you are just plain ignorant. I’ll let you pick. To use this quote John 7:24 “Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.” seems dangerous to me. It sounds almost like your manipulating this verse of the scripture to support your OPINIONS and validate your judgement by claiming its from GODS WORD…. however if you look at NLT Christian Bible that very same verse reads John 7:24 “Look beneath the surface so you can judge correctly”… As you can see if your not reading what leads up to and after the verse and just take the verse as a quote, your setting yourself to sound more like a occult leader. Which reminds me of this warning in Revelation 22 18-19

“And I solemnly declare to everyone who hears the words of prophecy written in this book: if anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book. And if anyone removes any of the words from this book of prophecy, God will remove that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book.”

2.The moral walls of America have been declining for a looooonnnngggg time now. I think you just like giving all the credit to Andy. It wasn’t just that decade and its not just now. This has been an ongoing decline since the old testament. Its just that the generation gap is starting at a much younger age.
God gives many people gifts and most people use those gifts to gain the things of the world.. NOT JUST ANDY!!! Even if he did make a positive impact he wouldn’t be remembered for those impacts on society and culture except for the few but DEFINATELY NOT THE MASSES!!! As you know Andy was a comedian, show me a comedian that does not fit your complaint about Andy K., bette yet, show me a celebrity… (minus Brangelina LOL) or even a politician (OUR LEADERS!!!!) that you couldn’t make the same case for. It sound like your life growing up was hard and that it sucked but thats not my focus. My focus is Andy K. and that you criticize.. (not to be confused with God giving you the power to judge him) Andy K and Larry for putting this up on the blog. With your reply all you’ve done is back stepped and redirected the focus to yourself so that everyone can understand your rationalizing (Where your coming from)…. “I had a hard life, therefore everyone needs to understand me and where I AM COMING FROM”

A CHILD IS A REFLECTION OF THEIR UPBRINGING!!!

You pointed it out… You were beaten and had a crappy life and knew that this is what you didn’t want. Therefore you did the exact opposite because of your upbringing. There is free will but… when you came to the crossroads “Do I wanna be like that or not” ? you chose not to because of your upbringing. If you were not raised like that you never would have come face to face with that pivotal question. If I were in your shoes I would be thanking my dad for showing me what I didn’t want to end up like.

Purple you can also say that this blog, driving in traffic, grocery shopping and so on, have had an effect on your life and now you should as you see people genuinely thank them ALL or molding you.

How do you explain the raising of 3 or four children and each go in a different direction in life? Was it the influences of their childhood that directly made them choose their paths or something else?

I agree with you on much of what you say yet it appears as though you stepped past a valid point.

Curious do you have children and if so how do you monitor and sensor them? Have you won half the battle?

The clear cut road to self mutilation: RELIGION!

Why are you fighting. Look at what you are saying, cant you see that you are both hurting and now lashing out at each other.

Purple Nurple, you sound so cold and analitical that you cannot see the pain in another persons life this is very sad. We should be mending them not scolding them. Don’t make yourself better by tearing down others. Nothing good can ever come from that kind of reasoning.

Tom Horner, try to see the good in others and appeciate what they can bring to the conversation. This isn’t about you so don’t take it personally.

Lets all get along and have a conversation about like and see how each other live in this hard world we live in. Lets do it in peace and patience.

Me Too, how did you get ahead of me you were not there when I wrote my peice. Anyway, you are also trying to start trouble, shame on you.

  11. Tom Horner did you not read the caption of this post? It plainly states that this was one of the best impersonations ever. Nowhere does it say this is one of the best men to ever walk the face of the earth so parents bring your children here and show them this clip.Nor does it say pastors, priests, rabbis this clip will make believers of your followers so play it at your services. It was simply an observation based on a performance. If you grew up with him and knew already that you disliked him and what he stood for why did you even watch the video? What church is it in? This is a blog and while it consists of many bodies of the church it also has a lot of non believers who choose to converse too. We need to be very careful about closing doors on people based on our own peresonal feelings. Seriously people LIGHTEN UP!!!!!

  12. Tom Horner,
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us! I too had some trying times growing up not to the extent of yours. But I watched drinking fighting immoral behavior and violence everyday of my life and know how hard it is to over come and be better than that. It’s so easy to fall into what you see and I thank God everyday for my husband for without his influence and Larry D’s I’d be ten times worse than my parents ever were.
Purple I agree with you to an extent. See I am a product of the events that happened in my life Not my upbringing. Which I truly believe are two totally different things
@home mommy Lashing really I think they are two men having a Correspondence (heavy yes) But not Lashing
Me to also- this blog has Definitely shaped me in some ways.
I am also proud to say my mom is an AWESOME christian she has her days like the rest but she is showing a whole new her to this wicked world :)

Me too also… I could thank everyone for molding me but I wont. The 3 or 4 children that all grew up together and chose different paths you were talking about. They all grew up together but without that type of rearing they NEVER would have come to do what they do now. Since all of them have different lives and went about different directions only means that they are all different people that were reared the same just lived through a different perspective. Ever see the move “Vantage Point” everyone was at the ceremony when an assassination went down… yet they all have different perspectives of it. If you dont get what I’m trying to relay then just leave the topic alone.
Someone who is raised in poverty may end up staying the same way or it just may give them the drive and heart to be more than what they were. IF this same person was raised in a wealthy lifestyle they may never know what it means to be “hungry” and may not have that burning desire to succeed. Granted when your born into wealth chances are your set for life but you’ll all-together be a different type of person.
At Home Mommy I hope that you are not an at-home-mom that home-schools their children. I’ve been on this blog shortly and can already tell that you are one of those people that doesn’t read or listen all the way through. A word in mid-sentence probably raises a lil red flag that tells you to stop paying attention and start reacting. I dont know why I even bother mentioning this to you at the end, you probably got halfway and decided to start typing LOL. Just lye down before you hurt yourself!!!!! LOL :P
