In the Todd Agnew song “My Jesus” he poses a dilemma that many proclaiming Christians ignore or try to refuse. He writes (sings), “I want to be like my Jesus but I’m not sure what that means to be like You Jesus. Cause You said to live like You, love like You, but then You died for me. Can I be like You Jesus?”
Try putting your arms around that statement. It’s in perfect tune with scripture, yet leaves an after taste that most rinse away quickly. So, Can I be like Jesus and do I have to accept it all or can I go à la carte?
Do I really need to die like You?
A thought from the far corner of my skull cap after a disturbing conversation with fellow believer…
Category: Riddle Me This

Friday, 25. July 2008
Those are very powerful lyrics. I think we should have the willing heart to do everything Jesus did while He was here on earth, if the Lord calls us to do so. Even if that means sacrificing yourself for someone so that they might live (like in the previous video about the father and son). Do we hang ourselves on a cross and torture ourselves to be like Jesus? Umm…heck no!

are you implying that we should mutilate ourselves to be like Jesus?

Judging from how he put this under the “riddle me this” category, I highly doubt it.

I tried not to reply back to this, ha ha, but just couldn’t resist.
Andy, please reread my post. Did you miss the “heck no” part??

Being like Jesus encompasses many various traits and values and to say that many ignore or try to refuse is wrong. This is not true we all want to and try. You are placing a greater burden on all of us than we can handle.
HIS GRACE IS ENOUGH
Wednesday, 30. July 2008
Yeah His Grace is enough, but as Christians we must portray the traits and values of Christ (or we are hypocrites!). If we all just did whatever we wanted, the whole entire human race would be going to heaven just because of what Christ did! Unfortunetly it doesn’t work that way. There is a price to be paid for the Lord here, to give up our lives and be willing to fullfill His call for us as individuals.
Stop making excuses, while you still can. The Lord never gives us anything we can not handle. Is it really too much to ask to give up yourself in this short life to spend eternity in the best place you could ever imagine, not to mention with the Lord Himself? When you stand there before Him on your day of judgement are you going to tell Him that living your life for Him was too much of a burden?

@home mommy, Are you serious???? The world is full of people who ignore or try to refuse the way of the Lord. Just look around you. There are far more people refusing to live like Christ then there are living for HIm. If this were not true then we who choose to try to live like HIm wouldn’t be persecuted for our choice. WHO is placing a burden on you? Larry because of his words? If so maybe its conviction. Or is the burden you speak of trying to live like Christ? I know its a lot of work but I would never call it a burden. Grace-The undeserved favor, forgiveness, and acceptance we receive from God through our acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. And to truly accept we must live as and for Christ COMPLETELY!!!! So His Grace is enough if you are in fact in his Grace.

I’m reminded of the post, “Justified by our sins”, except with a twist.
It could be called, “Justified by our burden”.
Look at John 6. Jesus was telling His many disciple, what they must do to follow Him. Many disciples turned to Jesus and said, “This is very hard to understand. How can anyone accept it?” And they eventually walked away from the Son of God. Then Jesus turn to the remaining 12 disciples and said, “Are you going to leave, too?”.
Following Jesus Christ is NEVER going to be an easy path to walk (it doesn’t imply that it is anywhere in the bible). In fact the bible teaches the exact opposite, we can expect: quarreling, hatred, division, persecution and death.
We should not drawn a line and say, “This is good enough for me, others will go farther and complete God’s work”. We are told to be vessels for the Lord’s work. We are told that the burden is great, but if we yoke our burdens to Christ, the load will be light. God never gives us more than we can handle in any given day (not to say that we can’t take on more than we can handle, but the Lord will never give us too much).
“I want to be like my Jesus”. Study His life and see the heartaches that happened. And count the cost of what it truly takes to be a child of God.
But, if we surrender our all and fight (with ourselves and the world) to be like Jesus, it is the most rewarding thing imaginable.
Think of what Christ said, next time you think the burden is too great, “Are you going to leave, too?”
His grace is enough, but it is a life long fight to stay in His grace.
I can’t thank the Lord enough for the things He has done in my life, and I look forward to His work that lies ahead. For all I can do is try to glorify my Lord and Savior.
God bless

I am truly amazed at some of the things that people who claim to be living for the Lord say. “You are placing a greater burden on all of us than we can handle. I wonder, how the story of Jesus would have been changed had he said that to his Father? I wonder what our future would hold had he not taken the largest burden of all on his shoulder for us!!!!!
It is the least I can do to give back some of my precious time for what He did for me.
The hardest part of being a Christian is the frustration of watching other Christians “playing the part.” We have all seen it, people it is time to stop making excuses for your lives and make a true and lasting commitment to the one who gave it all up for you!!!!!
I am convinced there are many on this blog who are really making a difference, but there are a few who continue to make excuses for why they sit in the comfort of their space and say “I am doing enough.”
Just my frustration coming out!!! I will continue to be in prayer for my Christian family that someday we will all find the true way, but until then we will be held accountable for our words and actions. It is never enough!!!

This is so like you people. Condemning those of us that do not agree with your extreme beliefs. Try looking at all this form someone else’s perspective for a change. We all don’t have the support networks that some of you have. Some of us don’t even have the resources so are we going to be held back and judged harsher? And if I don’t call out the name Jesus will I surely parish in the eternal fire of hell?
Why can we not just like out our lives loving God and thanking Him each day for what he has done and not go psycho religious on us? This sounds very narrow minded and legalistic to me. God wants us to love Him.
We can never do enough to satisfy you ever! You guys throw scripture around, but I dare ask you to look in the mirror and do you see a person that honestly is living it out. Probably not.
Who is your God?
Thursday, 31. July 2008
Annie,
I am sorry if you felt I was condemning you, not my place or job to do that so my apologies for making you angry. Spend some time rereading your post and reflecting on some of your words. What support networks do you need besides Jesus? With Him all things are possible. What resources do you need? Do you have a Holy bible and someone who is mentoring you?
Eternal life only comes from calling out the name of Jesus, I am not sure I understand your question.
What does psycho religious mean to you? It sounds scary to me. (just a little humor, sorry)
I don’t believe any of us can look in the mirror and say we are living it out to its fullest. If we do we better take a better and deeper look.
My God is the only true God in heaven Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and I try to live every day to glorify Him. I pray that he finds me worthy.
God Bless

We cannot change others, just ourselves. If we are going to become authentic in our faith don’t you think that it is best done through example. The reason most reject religion is because of the, do as I say-not as I do, syndrome.
This will require much patience as the years of hypocritical teachings have fed deep into the minds and hearts of people. When one decides to take a stand for biblical apostolic living, you should aspect the world to shiver. This is not what the world desires. Remember what the world did to them.
Interesting thing though, if you want to be religions and where specific clothing and hair styles, not watch TV and go to church 4 days a week, no one cares because those things only effect the individual doing them. Now on the other hand if you live a transparent life and expose the world to the life and teachings of Christ they get, what’s the best word to describe this. Oh yea, pissed-off.
WHY?
Thursday, 31. July 2008
I am so thankful that it is not my responsibiliity to change others. I will leave the changing to God. He is still working on me with my patience with others every day.
Connie, your last statement is so right on. I have seen so much of this over the last few years. Even in my own family. Wow, I never believed living a Christian life would be so difficult at times until you truly try to live it.
God Bless
