While some Americans eye new televisions and tanks of gas, some Triad groups hope recipients of economic stimulus checks will use their extra cash more generously.

“Wouldn’t it be nice if people gave at least some of that money back to something good?” said Heather DeDona, a member of Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church.

The church asked its members to Complete Story

So do you think it’s wrong to ask for all or part of it? What I will say is this, the church needs to learn how to be a good steward also! People would be less reluctant to give if they understood how the money was being used to glorify God. And if you can’t explain it, maybe your not.

  1. I really don’t think this applies. It is an advancement in our taxes for next year so why would I turn it over. I see it only as a loan.

  2. Glad your back in the saddle Larry. I like thought on this topic, if you really understand the need and real needs are being met people will submit their income. But church remodels and improvements. Sorry, I’ve just seen to many improved done when it wasn’t really needed but wanted. Seek God’s will in all you do and you won’t go wrong.

  3. It is my business to decide what to do with the money. Why is it that every time you get a couple cents ahead the government or church have there hands out. Seriously!

I’m a firm believer in giving all you can to Christ Church and I also believe that the staff must be a good steward with that money. Should I give my tax relief check? Not all of it, but why not try stepping out and giving 15 or 20 percent. Think about it, what would you do if you didn’t have it. So honor God.

The only person you are hurting is yourself if you don’t submit to the Lord. Lord why, Lord this, Lord that, but do you remember all the times you could have done for Me and didn’t.

I agree that the church needs to be responsible with God’s resources. Way to often churches do things that are absolutely ridiculous. They do things that are gimmicky trying to get publicity and news coverage. Is this how God really works? NO.

I’ve seen more and more churches do things like offering movie tickets, gift cards for things like gas. I’ve even heard that there are churches purchasing gas and reselling at a reduced rate. Why, to was God’s resources. It surely doesn’t bring glory to the Lord. Why not purchase shoes for the poor or provide shelter for the homeless. Dealing with real social issues and not media opportunities. Do you think the world sees this as a blessing or a joke. The church needs to realize how many people they are causing to reject Christ because of these STUPID gimmicks.

I know they are going to be quick to say, but we are sending the message of Christ to all these people and you know what, it’s the wrong message. Let us not cause of of these children to stumble!!!!!!

I and most I know would never tithe or gift to a church that did these kinds of things.
