I first came across this article over at Deep Thoughts by Gman. The NFL which found itself on the receiving end of protests and controversy after it objected to churches showing the Super Bowl on big-screen televisions, has reversed course and will now permit the viewings… Washington Post story.
Hmmmm, not sure how to respond. This was an urgent issue on Capitol Hill? Proposing legislation for worship centers to show the Super Bowl, why? And the secular world sees us how and why? I’ll leave it in your court.

I think I get where you are coming from, but I think it is good that we have Christians in government, even though they may use their power unfairly sometimes. At least now we can get together for the Super Bowl party without violating any laws, thats good.
On the other hand your statement “And the secular world sees us how”, this is a really good point. We try so hard to live and introduce Christ to others and these kinds of things, though not bad tend to make others see us in the wrong light. Kind of like, see what is important to them are the same things as us. They care as much for the game as we do!
This one is a double edged sword!

This sounds like some of the same crap the fundamental/evangelical organization “American Family Association” (AFA) would get behind to push through congress!
Right up there with gay bashing!

How are we (as Christians) not getting it right. I have a 12 year old sister in-law, and this weekend she was talking to me about a history teacher telling her and her classmates that, and I quote, “religion is the lazy man’s answer for life. There is no way that someone can go poof, and we suddenly existed”. (Of coarse the teacher believes that he came from a monkey.)
This is a public school teacher discussing this with our youth, where is the uproar for things of this nature (I know that can’t be the first time this has happened in a school district). Yet we get upset and picket the NFL for not allowing us to watch the game on a screen bigger than 55 inches. Seriously, why is THIS the urgent issue on Capitol Hill? And we wonder why the world sees us as they do.
It’s because we don’t fight the good fights, just the “little nothings” that we know we can win.
That’s my opinion.
God bless

Leave it so one of you liberals to compare the Super Bowl Issue to Homosexuality. The AFA cares for the future of this great country. They are standing in the gap where you guys lack any concern, the greater moral issues. They are standing up so that you can bad mouth them and do the things that you do. I would recommend that you take sometimes to see how hard they work for us Christians and when your done consider saying thank you for the grate job.
Why shouldn’t we be allowed to show the Super Bowl, if we choose? Thanks Senators for your readiness to protect the assembly. It just goes to show how much power we Christians still have in the government. Thank God.

Personally I love the super bowl it is my favorite day of the year! And would much rather be able to watch it with my church then were I otherwise would a sports bar or what have you. I hve a three year old to think of so I think it’s pretty cool. And why sholdn’t christians have someone on the Hill to look out for us and All our needs. Every other group has atleast two to choose from

It’s great that they went to bat for us Christians to be able to watch a football game together on a large screen. What I would like them to work on, and spend their energy getting past, is the right for there to be the Ten Commandments posted in a court of law, my futer children to pray at their graduation(in the name of Jesus), for all unborn children to see the light of day, and the freedom to speak about Christ and God in any place I want without risking my freedom. These are the big things that should be fought for, not some silly football game that happens once a year. I agree with Jimmy Mac, What do we look like to the rest of the world? No better than them. Only worried about our own convenience and being aloud to watch what the rest of the world but only in “our” safe little buildings. I like how it was put in the article that the NFL was condeming churches for showing it on a screen larger than 55″ but that bars have been exempt for years. So now churches are equal with the sports bars of america. Funny, but that is not the way I want to be seen as.

Larry,
You asked in another post why I come, simple to correct you and your teachings in hope that you will realize that you have strayed and will long to come back.
Read 2 Corinthians 7 below and you will understand the context of my concerns for you and your church. May you find the strength to repent and return to the only living God.
2 Corinthians 7:8-10
8For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.
9Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
10For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

By they way I have a real difficult time believing you have over 20,000 page views a month. That is surely an exaggeration of immense proportions. Maybe 500 pages.
Lets add lying also.

Here is another version for those of us that couldn’t understand what Henrietta is trying to say:
2 Corinthians 7:8-10
8 I am no longer sorry that I sent that letter to you, though I was sorry for a time, for I know that it was painful to you for a little while. 9 Now I am glad I sent it, not because it hurt you, but because the pain caused you to have remorse and change your ways. It was the kind of sorrow God wants his people to have, so you were not harmed by us in any way. 10 For God can use sorrow in our lives to help us turn away from sin and seek salvation. We will never regret that kind of sorrow. But sorrow without repentance is the kind that results in death.
But when Paul speaks it was with love and compassion in his heart.
Henrietta, here’s just a few of the words you have spoke:
-”Lets add lying also.”
-”Leave it so one of you liberals to compare the Super Bowl Issue to Homosexuality.”
-”Why do all of you waste your time of this stuff. It is obvious that it is all fake, God did not create anything so preposterous so use your time constructively.”
-”Should we just open the flood gates and allow all that want to come in the church rush in. Letting them defile themselves and our members. Wearing hats, perverted shirts, women with no modesty, kids with no respect, adults bare footed?”
-”I am sorry that you have a weakness to adapt to the needs and wants of the world.”
-”The blind leading the blind, your both a couple of idiots.”
-”Your just an angry militia attack on God Himself.”
-”Don’t you get it, this is a silly posting. A ploy to get you sucked into his blog conversations. And it appears to be working.”
-”Just like you to pass the blame! It’s not my fault, it’s yours. You are guilty, just like everyone else that chooses to not listen and obey God. How do you stretch God’s word. Sounds more like changing it to fit your needs to me. The emerging thing is sickening.”
Where’s the love?
Also, what needs to be corrected (it can’t all be wrong, can it?). Could you please be more specific. Thank you.
God bless

Henrietta,
Go home!!!!!!! I will speak for the rest of the bloggers who visit this particular blog to Glorify the Lord.
You have NO idea what it means to be a child of God. I don’t know who in their right mind would have ordained a hateful, vindictive, unloving person as yourself but they obviously were not in their right mind. You have learned nothing from whatever bible you are reading because with all the hateful comments you make God is no doubt in tears.
Sign off this Blog, do not come back, and start opening up your Bible but first pray that God gives you the wisdom you sooooo need to understand his word.
Forgive me Lord for not having enough patience to take any more abuse from a person who so needs to find their way to you.

Hi WOG,
Does your name stand for Women of God? Just curious because I used to be in a small group called WOG’s when I was teenager. Any relation?
Monday, 3. March 2008
Hi Singer,
Yes it does, only thing that came to me. Nice to me you sister but no relation I’m afraid.
Tuesday, 4. March 2008
Women of God, you sure don’t act like it. Your words are cold and hard. I would wagger that your heart is much closer to the same description. It’s not by works, but by faith that we are saved. Do you really believe that Christ did the things as the bible says. If so, do you not realize that you are also endanger of the very judgement you’ve issued toward Henrietta. Imagine God telling you to go home, your not welcome here!
As believers we are to love the unlovable, care for the uncarable (my word) not reject them for not agreeing or supporting. I have read this blog off and on for the last year and as much as I disagree with Henrietta, you are just as wrong and hang the name of God on it, shame on you.
Try to look outside your own little crystal palace and see the pain in the person. Try to understand that it is not always easy for people to change. And with comments like yours they wont even try to step out.
I will be in prayer for you and I hope others out there in blogger land will think before they act. Lets all learn from this lesson.
PS.
Henrietta, do not try to use this post as a way to retaliate, you are not above reproach!!!

Marsha,
I like your point. We are to get uncomfortable regardless of the person. Do we really have the right to say when enough is enough? Sure we would like to but should we. The challenge of living out our faith forces us to look deeper at ourselves and challenge ourselves to live a life that points to the Father with love and honor.
SInger,
It is interesting that you are always one that try’s to give encouragement and loving guidance, yet you ignored the cruelty of WOG, why? You even embraced it? Where you concerned that it just might have been an old friend? Or were those the words you wanted to say to Henriette but didn’t have the courage. Did you find pleasure in his tongue lashing?
Just an honest observation from a member of the family of Christ. Forgive me if I’ve offended anyone. This was just on my heart and I felt it needed to be said.
Heneriette, your not off that easy. This is not in support of your behavior, you (as a man of God) should take some much needed time off and reflect on your life. See how Christ fits in that picture, if at all.
I pray for the love and compassion of the Lord to shine through us all.
God Bless

Where did the topic of the post go?
Tuesday, 4. March 2008
There was a topic? I thought this was bashers anonymous, and I brought my pitch fork for nothing. (Just kidding)
Tuesday, 4. March 2008
Jimmy Mac,
Are you saying we shouldn’t share our views about others posts or is that only saved for the elite chosen, such as yourself?
Miss T,
A woman of few but well thought-out words, sorry I wasn’t trying to take this post hostage, I really don’t like bashing on anyone and more so when you want to call yourself a woman of God. I do love this site and Pastor Larry is right-on. Even though I don’t attend your fellowship (I would if I live in Phoenix) I feel as if I am a part of this wonderful community. So sorry again, no harm intended,
Your Sister in Christ

Ouch, strong words. When I say “Just kidding”, it’s to imply that it was a joke. Sorry that you didn’t see that, but I was laughing out loud.
God bless

OK, I get what Beverly is saying and it is true. I myself have wanted to give some of the bloggers on this site a word slashing, but resisted. Why? Not because of who I am, but whom I want to represent. Why are these angry people coming, I don’t know and really don’t care (most of the time). If what we are saying and talking about brings them to understanding what Christianity is really about, who cares. How bad can it get, it’s only typed words my friends.
Should we correct one another? Yes lovingly & patiently, if we are going to call ourselves mature Christians. But what about those that are not mature or not even Christian. Lets be patient and love them, teach them and did I mention being patient.
Peace-out, Word-UP, well you get the idea. Got-a-run time to eat.
Tuesday, 4. March 2008
Thank you all for your great words. You are all right and at a moment of weakness I fell. I was just so hurt for so many weeks by all of the negative comments and there were absolutely no positive from this Henrietta.
Please forgive me, most of all God. I know the only one I hurt was him.
If Henrietta could just be the least bit encouraging to anyone other than Himself and show a little love and compassion to anyone else.
I truly and deeply am a WOG but I am also a sinner like the rest. And I can only take so much disrespect toward God, so please, I humbly ask forgiveness for my weakness.
God Bless

WOG, it’s OK and in keeping with good ol-fashioned Arizona style hospitality (justice) we’ll accept your apology. Jimmy Mac get the rope. ☺
For the record, we don’t really hang people in Arizona, well not to often. Ha Ha Ha Ha
Tuesday, 4. March 2008
Beverly Friday,
I totally saw your point and this post was already taken over by H and WOG. I also agree that H is totally welcome here. Maybe God is using us a a tool to help guide H and his congregation back to the Lord. It’s truly a pity you don’t live near our church we could use a cool levelheaded women such as yourself. Some of us get a little to over passionate sometimes myself included. Oh yeah and has anyone heard from H in awhile? Oh yeah you did give JMac a little bit of a bit though. LOL unfortunately he’s used to it. HI Jimmy Mac LOL
Tuesday, 4. March 2008
Wow I haven’t had a chance to say it today but your a nerd Larry D but I love you anyways. Seriously I haven’t laughed all day until right now. Hard times hard times.
Tuesday, 4. March 2008
(Bashers Anonymous- pretty funny Jimmy Mac, you made me laugh out loud too)!
Bev,
Wow…I didn’t expect that from you. To find pleasure in someone tongue lashing another person is sickening to me. No I don’t agree with everything WOG said, I would never tell anyone to go home or reject a person in that nature. Although, I do understand her frustrations with Henrietta as we’ve all had. I’ve already said what I needed to say to Henry and I’m done with that. (Only prayer now).
I guess I wanted to welcome the new comer by asking a question that I was simply curious about, instead of giving her a “tongue lashing” back. I didn’t feel it was necessary, sorry. I guess I was embracing the person, not the sin. No harm intended to anyone, just a question.
Tuesday, 4. March 2008
yeah, yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah. Lets get this group hug over with already.
Saturday, 8. March 2008
Man I can imagine some of the church leaders standing proud on their pedestals boasting about the great win the evangelical community had on capitol hill (we are in control). Nothing like cutting off your head in spite of your nose.
Sounds like someone is going to have some crow dinner for a few weeks.
