Super Bowl Sunday and Church: Finally

Published by Larry Diehl under Survey Says, Just For Fun

nflstory.jpg

I first came across this article over at Deep Thoughts by Gman. The NFL which found itself on the receiving end of protests and controversy after it objected to churches showing the Super Bowl on big-screen televisions, has reversed course and will now permit the viewings… Washington Post story.

Hmmmm, not sure how to respond. This was an urgent issue on Capitol Hill? Proposing legislation for worship centers to show the Super Bowl, why? And the secular world sees us how and why? I’ll leave it in your court.

If Seeing is Believing, Then?

World-renowned Scientist Dean Lott has discovered one of the most astounding discoveries of all time. Not only has Lott discovered several new species, he has successfully established the necessary supportive materials for Darwin’s evolution theory. I wonder how we creationists will explain all of this away.

The science community is perplexed as to how to classify and name these new species. How would you classify and name these creatures. Continue Reading »

From Anothers Perspective

studipquestion3.jpg

Why was there no formal church doctrines or creeds for Christ followers to maintain and accept in the days of Jesus?

This is a fun question. Matter of fact this could be considered one of those trick questions. You know, like why do chickens have lips? They don’t, yet people will ponder why! It’s funny how many people that call themselves Christian couldn’t answer the doctrines and creeds question. It’s not that they did not understand the creeds. They hadn’t considered the life of the first followers and the unique opportunity they had to walk and talk with Jesus. So let’s process together. Back in the day, Jesus was alive and kickin’, so he was able to personally resolve any doubts or questions and even correct wrong understandings (we sure could use his help today). Furthermore, our creeds include the brutal death and beautiful resurrection of Jesus himself, so for followers to adopt and profess them while Jesus was living would not only be creepy but also sound foolish.

One last thing, even though there were not doctrines or creeds per say, Jesus did require one thing of all that wanted to follow. It was that they needed to trust and believe in him.

Core Issues: Yes They Matter

Published by Larry Diehl under Deep Thoughts

applecore3.jpg

Core beliefs, I’m not going to spend time reinventing the wheel. Please follow the link to Dan Kimball’s Vintage Faith blog on core vs. non-core beliefs. He’s right on! As for our level of faith in or understanding of these core beliefs, that’s another matter. The only thing I have found absolute in life is our inevitable death and God’s love, grace and patience with us. Let’s allow God’s grace to flow as we each grow in our understanding of God and His will for all of us.

Some of you may not be satisfied with this so I offer our statement of faith.

Patience or Tolerance

Published by Larry Diehl under Deep Thoughts

Are we to be patient with or tolerant of people and their beliefs? Or are they one in the same?

To be tolerant shows our ability to control oneself. Either out of necessity or want (selfish). Patience on the other hand is the giving up of ourselves as a result of love and compassion for others (selfless).

As a parent, we are generally patient with our children and tolerant of their friends. We know that over time our children will lean and understand the expectation placed on them. Conforming to our will. Their friends, we endure them for the short time they are visiting.

Thank you Father God for being patient with me,

The Emergent or Evangelical Church, Which are you?

emerg31.jpg

The question, what religious group or association are you affiliated (a part) with? For those who have asked on this blog, you will not appreciate my answer, it is “The Body of Christ”. We are not of a splinter group, faction or organized political party with our own agenda. We are a Christian fellowship and represent just a small (very, very small) part of “The Body”.

Haven’t we figured it out? It is the world that wants us to Continue Reading »
