The Greek word translated “Gospel” is euangelion, and has its origin in the soap merchants of ancient times who would advertise their wares by calling out, Good News!” upon entering a town. In those days before deodorant or cologne, the arrival of soap was good news indeed!* Very much like the Gospel of Christ, it comes to cleanse us of our sins and make fresh.

1 Corinthians 15 (NLT
1 Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. 2 It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place.
3 I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said.

Galatians 1:12 I (Paul) received my message from no human source, and no one taught me. Instead, I received it by direct revelation from Jesus Christ.

Read Isa. 53:5-9

Isaiah was written around 680-700 B.C. Does this give point to the one we call Messiah today?

4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. 5 He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. (Matthew 28:16-17, Luke 24:34, 36:43, John 20:19) 6 After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. 7 Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles. (Acts 1:3-4) 8 Last of all, as though I had been born at the wrong time, I also saw him. (Acts 9:3-6)

What is the point that Paul is trying to make to the church?

So many of us think that we are not able to come to the Lord because of the life we lives. Look at Galatians 1:13, do you think by worldly views Paul should have received the grace of God?

Last week we looked at Acts 1:8. Can you see how important it is to share your faith with others in both words and deed?

Like Paul’s message to the church of Corinthians, if you believe the Gospel and trust that it is true, then tell the world. You’ve ran out of excuses. It is time to become personally responsible to Christ. After all it is “The Good News”.

How do yo handle your small group bible studies. We are interested in starting one where we live. Do you provide additional text or references each week for leaders?
