HOLD UP!

But you can thank us for a place to explore it.

The Greek word translated “Gospel” is euangelion, and has its origin in the soap merchants of ancient times who would advertise their wares by calling out, Good News!” upon entering a town. In those days before deodorant or cologne, the arrival of soap was good news indeed!* Very much like the Gospel of Christ, it comes to cleanse us of our sins and make fresh. Continue Reading »

I prefer to think of my self as a toenail. Toenails are: not much to look at; the first pushed into the mud; most often ignored; appear insignificant and unattractive and usually the first to be stepped on. And yet every single toenail must be frequently trimmed and shaped or they grow out of control. Once out of control the once insignificant toenail affects the performance of the entire body in a negative way.
May God continue to trim and shape me into the man He longs for me to be.
Just thinking out loud, again.

There are those things that are essential to being a Christian (foundational) and those that are not. Foundational essentials include: Faith, God, Holy Spirit, Jesus the Son of God, the atonement of sin, origin of sin, Jesus lived and was crucified under Pontius Pilate, Angels, Heaven, Hell, marriage union of one man and one woman, creation, the virgin birth, Bible is inspired word of God and personal accountability rounds that out. I fully note and agree that even a list as this has weaknesses and does not represent the passionate and holistic nature of what following Jesus is all about.
Other the other hand, here are a few examples of items left on the table for OPEN discussion: method of worship, feet washing, day of worship, length of worship, make-up, piercings, hair color, hair styles, flip flops, penny loafers, bowling shirts, ties, song books, projectors, 5 song worship services, beer, shorts, slacks, Calvinism, Arminianism, and local church government. These are just a few of the things that make us all unique, not necessarily wrong. Just different! Continue Reading »

When we spend our time trying to convince others that we are correct, are we not saying that we have absolute truth? Can any of us make that statement? That we totally understand the scripture and that the truth that we know will not change in understanding.
If you take that position then you’re no better than the vipers of Jesus’ day. They felt that they had absolute understanding, yet Jesus corrected them on numerous occasions. For the sake of argument, can we not claim that we do have an understanding of scripture and that there is an outside chance Continue Reading »

In the famous words of the once popular Brittney Spears, “Ooop’s I’ve Done It Again”, yes I have. Again maybe not so much, but I like the cleverness of the wording in that song nonetheless. I can’t speak for other Pastor/Teachers, but for me the Holy Spirit really stirs my heart and I get emotional during services. A side note, audio messages just don’t give God the glory that live services do, but to continue.
The emotions that run through me and the desire I have to bring glory to God is sometimes overwhelming for this mere man (bag of bones). I have been known to get Continue Reading »

Why do you wear a cross around your neck? For some it is a Christian emblem or badge of honor while for others it is a symbol for Christianity. But I believe for most it is a piece of jewelry that they wear to accessorize their clothing.
Excuse me sir, do you recommend the silver or gold cross with my skin color and is it popular to have the little man on it, asked the women to the sales clerk. I too am asked quite often why Continue Reading »

Acts 1:8
But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth.
Explain Acts 1:8 in your own words?
Was this passage specifically and solely addressed to the disciples that heard it that day?
Do you feel this passage applies to you?
How does this passage effect your life? If at all.
Do you feel you are fulfilling God’s desire of you?
