What a day in worship service today. I don’t believe that there was a dry eye amongst the congregation. Before service as usual, I asked for the Holy Spirit to prepare us all for worship AND THAT HE DID. I also prayed that the congregation would be receptive to the video I chose to share with them this morning.
The video was actually a music video by Ugly Kid Joe, and the song, “The Cat in the Cradle”. It was a perfect introduction to our subject this morning, “The Home”. We explored what the home should be and what it has become in this drive through society we are all a part of. And for those of you that know the video, we did not play the first couple of seconds. So no emails about it please.
Granted, Ugly Kid Joe is not exactly the poster child of Christianity, but this video is awesome. Not to mention the lyrics to the song just pull at your heart. If you’ve never heard the song I recommend you sitting down and listen closely to all the words. For your reading pleasure I have included part of the first verse to give the idea of where this song goes on a very personal level.
“Cat in the Cradle”
My child arrived just the other day
Came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
He was talkin’ ‘fore I knew it
And as he grew he said,
I’m gonna be like you, dad,
These lyrics really rock!
As I said in the beginning I was concerned about how our people would take an MTV rock video opening our message. Guess what, the Holy Spirit spoke and the tears began to flow from many of us. Yes, even myself. We were all greatly touched beyond mere words.
Please don’t get the wrong idea, we aren’t your typical uptight group, but a rock video during service is a rock video during service. I thank God for this glorious day and I know we were a wonderful blessing for Him.
In closing I just want to say, our folks rock! What a blessing it is too be a part of such a loving, God centered group.
Thank you God, you are truly amazing!

Great idea it sounds like a wonderful sermon. Do have your sermons available as MP3’s? I would like to get a copy if you do. Also, where did you come across that video? I would like to use it in our fellowship.
Sincerest regards

We just put that sermon on CD and will up loading to the church audio file archives in just a couple of days. They are MP3’s and you can download as many as you wish for free. If you like, I can send you a CD also (of course at no cost). Just contact the church via the web site and let me know.
God Bless
