Sorry, I’m not real good with some of this blog code stuff so I went ahead and just reposted this story. I was asked to repost this story by a couple of friends so here it is. Enjoy.
Where is Brian “Head” Welch these days?
Has anyone heard as to his whereabouts. If you don’t know who he is, let me regress. Brian Welch, nicknamed “Head” is the former lead guitarist and founding member, did you get all that so far, of the rock band, I mean legendary rock band Korn. If you don’t know who Korn is you probably don’t care a pile of beans about Welch, so stop reading now or click on the “keep Reading” link and watch the video on the next page. Now getting back to the story.
Let’s start with words for Brian himself….
“I want to clear the air about why I left korn and how I feel about them. I left korn because I lost every bit of the love that I had inside my heart, mind, body, soul, and spirit. All the love leaked out of me completely. My decision to leave korn was hard in early 2004 to think about, but at the end of 2004 it was quite simple actually. I wanted to learn how to be the best dad that I could be to my beautiful little girl. Right before I quit korn, I caught my daughter walking around my house one day singing songs about sex and death that came from my band. I wasn’t having that anymore. When you have a 5 year old daughter singing “all day I dream about sex”, and “dead bodies everywhere” ect, it’s going to have an effect on you as a parent. Also, I was sick and tired of being a slave to the ol’ mighty buck at the expense of my family, my music, my happiness, my health, and my morals. I loved money more than everything in my life. Money was my god and it was going to kill me if I didn’t get my life in the correct order it needed to be in. I played Mr. Angry for too long. I wanted to feel love again in my heart. I’m not an angry Christian. I’m not better than anyone. Christians are supposed to despise the principalities that hurt the people in the world. Not despise the people in the world. I think some Christians and non-Christian people are very confused about that.” End of Brian’s quote.
As some of you know Brian quit his multi-platinum, Grammy award winning rock band in February of 2005 to become a Christian. Yes, by the worlds standard he was on top of the world with fame and fortune. To leave all that would be considered crazy. Isn’t it ironic that Brian struggled and fought to become what he ultimately despised; a slave to the world.
As we are all quite aware of, the life of a super
star is very dangerous. Drugs, alcohol, gluttony, greed, temptation and who knows what else. Everything Brian wanted he had and yet he was not happy. So what happened? I’ll tell you, the Holy Spirit put his hold on Brian and let him see the real self. The dark and angry Brian as seen through the eyes of his own daughter. Ouch!
The interesting thing about Brian’s story is how he came to know the Lord. Picture this, he sat in the back of the church, torn and marked up jeans, tattoos and piercing all over his body, several small braids all over his head, a black hoodie with the hood over his head and just sitting quietly in the back of the church. Has one of Satan’s demons arrived? Why was he just sitting? Brian was watching, absorbing and just processing everything. And as Brian said in one interview, they just left me alone and did not try to change or judge me. They just let me sit and watch. No one had any idea at the time who or what his deal was, just that he was there. And finally in the Holy Spirits perfect timing Brian came to the now the Lord.
Now think about that whole situation. How many of our churches would allow a hostile, angry looking person to just sit and process. In many of the churches I’ve been involved in over the years, they would have asked him to remove his hood and then begin drilling him for his reason for being there. The real kicker, none of this would have happened out of love for the visitor, but out of fear for their own!
Brian finds God and begins a new journey. One without Korn, drugs or alcohol. Isn’t it funny how when a famous person does something wrong it’s seams to be on television for weeks and even months, but when a famous person gives their life to Christ it quickly gets pushed under the carpet. All I know is that if Brian had backslid as some would call it, the media would be like sharks at a feeding frenzy. What no chum for the media sharks.
So the question again, besides his trip to India to build a home for children, what is “Head” up to? Any word?
