Words for Careful Digestion

An excerpt from C.S. Lewis’s, The Screwtape Letters.

“Surely you know that if a man can’t be cured of churchgoing, the next best thing is to send him all over the neighborhood looking for the church that ‘suits’ him until he becomes a taster or connoisseur of churches.

….the search for a ‘suitable’ church makes the man a critic where the Enemy wants him to be a pupil.”

If you’re not familiar with The Screwtape Letters, the word Enemy refers to God.

Legalistic Prayer

Why are you so legalistic about saying a prayer at each meal? This was a question that was asked of me recently.

Let me set the stage. I was at one of our finer eating establishments (McSomething) and my son had started eating before saying grace. So as a responsible parent I Continue Reading »

The festival of Samhain (Halloween Roots)

Published by Larry Diehl under Survey Says, Deep Thoughts

Who is really tricking who and what do you really have to lose?
Your alt text
Just the simple facts for you to digest… I just ask that as you read this, have an open mind and see the world as it is. As Paul Harvey would say, here’s the rest of the story.

Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in).

The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before Continue Reading »

Just thinking out loud.

Why is it when I am asked if I celebrate Halloween people including Christians get made at me, even waging war. As some of you know, my household doesn’t participate in that Holiday. Let me add before the civil liberties Continue Reading »

Brian “Head” Welch Again

Sorry, I’m not real good with some of this blog code stuff so I went ahead and just reposted this story. I was asked to repost this story by a couple of friends so here it is. Enjoy.

Where is Brian “Head” Welch these days? Your alt text Has anyone heard as to his whereabouts. If you don’t know who he is, let me regress. Brian Welch, nicknamed “Head” is the former lead guitarist and founding member, did you get all that so far, of the rock band, I mean legendary rock band Korn. If you don’t know who Korn is you probably don’t care a pile of beans about Welch, so stop reading now or click on the “keep Reading” link and watch the video on the next page. Now getting back to the story. Continue Reading »

A Word or Two on Romans 12:4-5
Many of us like to quote Romans 12:4-5, not understanding the implications of one body. Does the bible really mean one body as it so clearly states? Yes, it does. Meaning that we are all part of the body of Christ. Some fingers, others toes, while even others eyes and ears.

So should it really matter what part of the body you are as long as you are part and not apart! What’s amazing is this, we all read from the same book, live for the same Savior, yet many in the Christendom remain isolated, separated, discriminated, and at times even threatened by our cohorts (other parts of the body).

Think about it, when was the last time you heard Continue Reading »

Do You Remember When

What a totally stupid show the Gong Show was and I just loved it. My favorite part of the show was and will always be, Gene Gene the Dancing Machine.

But what about the very talented Smothers Brothers and the Yo-Yo Man

Great classic memories

Who or What are you Ashamed of?

Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work…” In other words, if you are reluctant at best to share your story of how Christ died for you while you where still knee deep in sin, drop to your knees as ask for His forgiveness. How can we be ashamed of the one that gave his own life for us, How?

The only thing we should fear is God alone. Our friends, families and neighbors cannot condemn us. Yet by our own actions we can condemn ourselves, even those of us that profess to be a Christian. Matthew 7:22-23, On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’

Does this sound a little harsh? I hope so. I would rather you be challenged today to live for Christ, than to be fooled into a sense of false hope and trust. Satan longs for each of us to be complacent in our faith.

My New Addiction

Your alt text
It may not be as much of an addiction as it is a great time. My nephew and brother-in-law have tried for over a year to get me on the paintball field. Lets be honest, I know all they wanted to do was use me as a live target. That thing they call fresh meat and that was cool with me. So a few months ago I buckled under all the peer pressure. All I can say is that balling rules. I can see why it has become one of the top participation sports in the world. Continue Reading »
